A family workshop, before it was ever a brand
Iconic Artisans did not begin as a business plan. It began as a small workshop, a set of hand tools, and one man's refusal to let quality be rushed. What he started in 1970 was carried forward by his son, and is now carried forward by us — his grandsons. This is that story.
Our grandfather started it all in 1970, working out of a modest workshop with little more than his hands, a handful of tools, and an eye for detail no machine could ever replace. In those early years, there was no shortcut he was willing to take — every ring, every fitting, every finished piece passed through his hands before it left the workshop. He believed that trust was earned one honest piece at a time, and he spent decades earning it, working late into the evenings by lamplight, teaching himself new techniques, and slowly building a reputation in his town for work that simply did not break, tarnish, or disappoint. He never had a brand name, a shop sign, or an advertisement — only word of mouth, and a queue of customers who kept coming back. That quiet, stubborn dedication to doing things properly is the seed from which everything we make today has grown.
In 1990, our father stepped into the workshop his own father had built, and set about growing it into something bigger without ever losing what made it special. He was the one who pushed the craft beyond a single trade — bringing in wood carving, new finishing techniques, and a wider range of designs that reflected changing tastes while still being made entirely by hand. He travelled to source better materials, worked directly with skilled karigars across the region, and slowly turned a one-man workshop into a small but respected family enterprise. He carried the same insistence on quality that his father had taught him, but paired it with an ambition to reach further — more customers, more product lines, more craftsmen trained in the family's way of working. By the time we were old enough to watch him work, the business had a name, a small team, and a standard that was simply non-negotiable.
Since 2015, it has been our turn — two brothers who grew up watching our grandfather's hands and our father's discipline, now carrying that same craft forward into a new generation. We took what we inherited seriously: the handcrafted techniques, the relationships with artisans, the refusal to compromise on quality — and we combined it with a new vision for where this family business could go. Under the name Iconic Artisans, we've brought that legacy to jewellery, home decor, kitchenware and drinkware, blending traditional Indian craftsmanship with designs made for how people live today. Every product we ship still passes through hands that were trained the same way our grandfather trained himself — by hand, with patience, and with pride in the finish. What began in a small workshop in 1970 is today reaching homes across the world, but the promise behind it has never changed.
